MSP ®* - Managing Successful Programmes
Managing Successful Programmes was first published by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) in 1999 and updated in 2003, 2007, and 2011.
MSP represents proven best-practice programme management and is a framework for successfully delivering transformational change through a dossier of related projects.
Whilst not being prescriptive it is very flexible and designed to be adapted to meet the needs of local circumstances. It reaches its ultimate objectives by bringing together the key elements of:
• Governance themes
• Transformational flow
by applying a principles-based approach to enable success.
Benefits of MSP
- MSP offers organisations a standard and consistent approach to programme management.
- It provides a framework for senior management to direct the change process whilst ensuring that the focus is always maintained upon business objectives.
- Through project prioritisation and integration, it encourages more efficient use of resources. It also provides for better management of risk due to its recognition of the wider context.Timescales, budgets and quality
standards can all be controlled more effectively; roles and responsibilities are clearly defined, thereby obviating duplication of effort and ensuring all personnel fully understand what is expected of them.
In all, MSP enables more effective delivery of change and a smooth transition from current to future business operation.
